Rapidstruck

Also, have some update pictures:

Switches installed.  Change of plans, though.  One of them is going to be the normal/ludicrous speed switch like I said, but the other one is going to activate LEDs in the blaster itself to charge glow darts rather than be the master switch.

The other two switches I'm putting on.  The bottom right one is the on/mode one that will control the LEDs in the front, while the top left one is what I think I'll use as the master switch (since it has a light in it, to see at a glance if it's on).

We also got our order of Elite suction darts today.  They don't stick too well but they do sound a lot better than the streamline version.

So

HvZ is happening again, but we've been a bit too busy to actually document it, what with schedules and tests and whatnot.  Humans won the first mission, but lost a ton of people, including some of the best players.  And Tim.

The Human bonus for winning the mission is that today, Wednesday, all zombies must yell "Why can't I hold all these limes?" before giving chase.

The Trigger

Finally finished my Maverick paintjob.  In the process I decided to theme it after Avak, a Piraka in the BIONICLE story.  I made a stencil of his logo and sprayed it on each side (topped by a bit of GitD clear coat).  His GANGSTA NICKNAME is "The Trigger" so that's why I called it that.

This is the first paintjob I've actually completed, only ever having tried to paint my original Alpha Trooper before and having it turn out very badly.  But I'm doing that again and I'm almost done now and it looks really good and you'll see it soon hopefully!

Nerf Hammershot

Name:
Nerf Hammerstrike

Type:
5-Shot Revolver  (Double Action)

Price:
$14.99

Included in packaging:

Nerf Zombie Strike Hammershot,
4 Stencils ( Blaster, Nerf logo, Zombie Strike logo, Zombie),
Directions,

5 Green Nerf Darts

Description:
The nerf Hammershot is a new blaster that was just released under the "Zombie Strike" line. With 5 darts, a sleek profile and the ability to fire one-handed, the Hammershot is my newest and favorite sidearm. The ability to fire single handed makes this ideal for HVZ players as it allows for the use of sock grenades or other sidearms with the other hand. The narrow profile of the blaster also allows for easy concealment in a sweatshirt pocket or the N-Strike Elite Tactical Vest.

The blaster is about the size of the Maverick for comparison but i feel that it is a lot more comfortable to hold and wield. The wrappings on the handle are fake but add some shape to give slightly more grip control.

Internals:
The internals are comprised of 2 main assemblies; The barrels, and the firing mechanism.
The entire system is removable by just removing the screws holding the sides together. The internals just pop right out ina self contained assembly that can still function outside of the blaster. It would be not that difficult to single barrel directly onto the plunger tube to make an extremely small and compact blaster.

Overall:

Pros:
Small size

Powerful shots

Very good range
Great Accuracy

Cons:
Only 5 darts
Angle of hammer can be uncomfortable
Fanning the hammer has NEVER worked for me. Only ends up jamming the gun when rotating with a half ejected dart

Wrap Up:
The Nerf Hammershot is a very good blaster for the price and i would highly recommend 1-2 for HVZ players as a primary or sidearm. The accuracy and range are key to my recommendation and there is not much needed to make this an extremely versatile and useful blaster.

Teaser for the next review!!!

So here's that Alpha Trooper video

It won't let me embed the video for some reason.  I think it can't handle my super-slow internet.  So here it is in link form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjFMEDi7HRg

Also, I'm going to be painting my Whiteout Maverick.  It was the first Nerf blaster of my HvZ career.  Normally I wouldn't want to paint a Whiteout, but the paint is chipping and rubbing off and I'd rather personalize it than watch it slowly get messier over time.

Picked up for $6.00 each at Target.
They had them in back but not on shelves yet. After a bit of asking and telling them the item code they brought them out for us.

Ranges:
Flat: 62-68 feet
Angled:  79-87

Overall impression:
With its direct plunger and straight 12 dart clip the Nerf Elite Alpha Trooper is a powerful addition to your arsenal.

Video to follow.

Saturday wrap-up

Game over, man!

So this was dumb.

Anyway, fun game overall.  Don't think we'll be going away just because it ended for the semester, though.

And remember:

All we want to do is eat your brains.

Friday wrap-up

No video tonight.  Not much happened other than lots of hunting.

Tim got a tag, but as he hadn't given his code away that long before* he's not "officially" a zombie yet. But he is.

I (Gabe) wore my Personal Soundtrack Shirt today and, while the speaker is actually kinda crap, it's thrilling to the nth degree when you can cue up some Half-Life tracks as you're chasing someone down.  "Disrupted Original" is probably my favorite.

The final mission is tomorrow, so that should be a blast.  It's always fun because afterward everyone can just walk off together and chat.  My favorite part of HvZ is that, although the combat can get pretty intense, people are still nice to each other, and a squad of humans and pack of zeds can carry on a big conversation for probably an hour while sitting in the 15-foot safe zone outside a doorway.

* Since his knee got hurt and he didn't know who'd actually tagged him, he decided that whoever could come up with the best HvZ-related limerick would get it.  Results forthcoming.

Blue is what we did.
Red is what we were going to do, but didn't get to.

Wednesday wrap-up

Sock day!

Tuesday wrap-up

We recorded this last night.

I got some footage during the day, but since I didn't encounter a single zombie it's quite dull.  I'm not going to bother posting it.

Update from yesterday

Here's the fixed video.  Hope to have some between-class footage for you later.

And so it begins

The game begins, and Tim and I take the Hilltop Challenge.

The camera's batteries died several times on the way back, but we made it.

Edit: Okay, so it looks like the video got corrupted.  I'll fix it later, I'm a bit tired right now.

Hello World

Greetings, programs!

This is a repository for all things Nerf or HvZ related that we feel like going on about.

Here's a short introductory video to get the ball rolling.  We'll be posting updates as the game progresses.
